May Brodhagen  was born in Telegraph Creek, B.C. and is an Elder of the Kaska First Nation. She sets an example by following the traditional lifestyles of our ancestors through hunting, fishing, trapping, and sewing.

May has been a passionate advocate for education for the last 30 years, and recognizes that education is an essential part of one’s independence.  She is always encouraging our youth to continue with their education.

May was a part of the group of Kaska members that helped establish the Dene Keh’ (People’s Way) for Liard First Nation in 1996.   May is passionate about the protection and preservation of aboriginal rights and title.  May has been involved for many decades with women’s issues in the north and is very vocal on the issues created by Bill C-31.

She has served many terms as an Elder with Yukon Aboriginal Women’s Council and continues to be an advocate for change on Women’s Issues.  A strong voice for women for the last 40 years, May wants to ensure that women’s rights are protected in the Kaska National Constitution.

May was inducted as a board member for the Liard Aboriginal Women’s Society in April 2008, and LAWS is excited to have her.
