violet.jpgViolet Greenway was born in Telegraph Creek, B.C. is a member of  the Crow Clan  and is an elder of the Kaska First Nation. She sets an example by following the traditional lifestyles of our ancestors through hunting, fishing, trapping, and sewing.  Violet has been an advocate for justice and community development for over 25 years.

Violet has worked with the Liard First Nation as a Court Worker for 10 years and it was during this time that she shared a vision of returning to the Dena way of justice. Violet was part of a group of Kaska members that helped establish the Dene Keh’ (People’s Way) justice for the Liard First Nation in 1996.  She continues to be a member of the Dene Keh’ Justice and is also a proud mentor to the youth.

Violet has been a strong guiding voice to the Kaska constitutional development, one that ensures that all members are treated with fairness, dignity, and respect. She also is there to make sure that there is clear and balanced representation in all levels of Government.

Bringing determination and passion with her, Violet would like to see an end to violence against women and returning to our traditional and respectful way of living as native people.

Liard Aboriginal Women’s Society is pleased to have had Violet has a board member since 2004.
