Clare Donnessy was born in her family’s tent out on the land. She is a member of the Wolf Clan and takes a lot of pride in her traditional ways. Clare sews, helps with snow shoes making and loves to go out to the land whenever she can. She remembers many good times as a young girl before the Alaska Highway was built. She was raised on the land and did not go to school at all.

She knows today it is important for youth to have schooling but is happy she did not go to residential school. Clare spent two years in a Edmonton hospital, when she was young and decided then she just wanted to be in her home Kaska land. Clare raised four boys and four girls. She wants to see youth gain teachings about the Kaska Ways and to be able to survive on the land as she has throughout her life.
